A curious thing happened yesterday. I got an email from a marketer at Atlantic Records about an emerging artist.
I wondered how said person got my email address - normally I receive communications through the Unreality TV contact form. So I scratched my head about this for a while. How do people get my direct email address? These marketers are so resourceful.
Regardless, I was pleased and flattered to be on a mailing list that obviously comprised other music industry writers. And from such a big label as Atlantic, the label which spawned Led Zeppelin.
So wrapped up in my pride was I, that I didn't really read the content until much later. Scanning through the content of the email, I noticed a slightly discoloured link that referred to the BBC's Sound of 2008 poll. It's an annual poll of industry insiders that the BBC carry out to predict who'll be hot acts in the coming year. And it's eerily accurate if previous years are anything to go by.
Anyway, what I noticed was that instead of linking to the BBC's own article about the poll, the guy from Atlantic Records had linked to my post about it. And this email went out to how many online sources?
Wow. Imagine how pleased I am now.
